Makati’s Achievement as a Resilience Hub

Makati City has been hailed by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) as the first Resilience Hub in Southeast Asia through the Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030) initiative.

Makati City has adopted the principle of making resilience a way of life and making resilience everybody’s business in all sectors of society. With the Resilience Hub recognition, Makati City has committed to develop its online knowledge portal, improve city-to-city cooperation with local governments in the Asia-Pacific region, and develop the Makati Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Academy as a knowledge base for Makatizens and citizens across the globe.

We are eager to pay it forward by optimizing the opportunity to share our knowledge, best practices and resources with other cities so that together, we can attain the highest level of resilience come 2030” – Abby Binay

MCR2030 aims to contribute to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11, Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the Paris Agreement, and the New Urban Agenda by empowering cities to become inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable by the end of the decade. 

Makati City’s Resilience Hub inauguration was held at the International Disaster Resilience Leaders Forum on 29 September 2022 in Incheon, Republic of Korea.
